Counted among the provocative thinkers of our age, former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright has a long list of accomplishments to match the praise from the international community. When President Clinton nominated her in 1996 as Secretary of State, she became the first woman to hold this office, as well as the highest-ranking woman in the history of the U.S. government. However, this accomplishment did not come without numerous high political positions she has formerly held.

Albright has served as a staff member on the National Security Council, a Senior Fellow in Soviet and Eastern European Affairs at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the President of the Center for National Policy, the United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and a member of President Clinton’s Cabinet and National Security Council. While serving as a Research Professor of International Affairs and Director of the Women in Foreign Service Program at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, Albright taught courses in international affairs, U.S. foreign policy, Russian foreign policy, and Central and Eastern European politics. Madeleine Albright has been a powerful and authoritative voice on the issue of human trafficking, advocating the surety of eradicating slavery if people truly respond and participate in the cause. She often quotes Margaret Mead “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
