A Professor of ethics at the University of San Francisco, David Batstone started his "career" guarding Salvadoran pastors and literacy teachers from death squads. He hosted and partnered with Bono and his wife Ali in this effort, which led to many of the songs off of U2’s Joshua Tree Album. Batsone was a member of the founding team of Business 2.0 magazine and is the founder of social venture firm, Right Reality. He writes regularly in USA Weekend edition as "America's Ethics Guru."

He traveled around the world investigating the Slave Trade before writing the book, “Not For Sale.” Batstone became aware of the presence of slavery in the progressive Bay Area when a woman trafficked in from India to work at a restaurant he frequented died in a gas leak. The secret pain of the many women in this situation shocked him into action. From the publication of “Not For Sale,” the Not For Sale Campaign has grown – an open source collective of students, activists, people of faith, corporations, and other concerned individuals who are stepping up to become modern abolitionists.

Not For Sale:

Not for Sale is a campaign of students, entrepreneurs, artists, people of faith, athletes, law enforcement officers, politicians, social workers, skilled professionals, and all justice seekers, united to fight the global slave trade. Inside the United States, the campaign identifies trafficking rings and collaborates with local law enforcement and community groups to shut them down and provide support for the victims. Internationally, the campaign partners with poorly resourced abolitionist groups to enhance their capacity. Every single person has a skill that they can give to free an individual living in bondage.
