Rocco DeLuca has an undying fascination with the blues and has opened for such blues legends as Taj Mahal, John Mayall, John Lee Hook, and country legend Johnny Cash. In 2005, DeLuca was discovered and signed by Ironworks Records, an independent label started by '80s pop singer Jude Cole and actor Kiefer Sutherland, and subsequently formed the band Rocco DeLuca and the Burden with drummer Ryan Carman, percussionist Greg Velasquez, and bassist Dave Beste. They released I Trust You to Kill Me in 2006. To coincide with the release of their album, they filmed a behind-the-scenes documentary of their European tour with then-manager, Sutherland. Although some attribute their fame to Sutherland, others recognize the outstanding talent of the band members like DeLuca who plays a Dobro guitar, notorious for its difficulty.
DeLuca’s sound is inspired by the likes of blues singer “Mississippi” John Hunt and Mahalia Jackson, Grammy-Award-winning gospel singer and the “Queen of Gospel Music.” His interpretation of the blues gives a modern style to the traditional songs that date back to the days of the transatlantic slave trade.
